Dr.
Andrew O. Lewicky
attended Oberlin College and received the
Bachelor of Science and M.D. degrees from
Northwestern University. Following medical
school, Dr. Lewicky completed internship and
specialty residency training in ophthalmology at
Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center and
the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary
where he served as Senior Resident. After this
training Dr. Lewicky served for two years in the
U.S. Navy Medical Corps, holding the rank of Lt.
Commander.
Dr. Lewicky is an acknowledged expert and
innovator in the field of surgery of the
anterior segment of the eye. He has authored
numerous articles and book chapters in the
medical literature. As a visiting professor, he
has presented lectures and performed surgery in
many countries around the world. Dr. Lewicky's
trips are both educational and humanitarian as
illustrated by his participation in Orbis, an
international philanthropic organization. Orbis flies
its DC-10 airliner fully equipped for eye
surgery around the world fulfilling its mission
of educating local ophthalmologists in state of
the art eye surgery and helping to restore
vision to their patients. Dr. Lewicky's
commitment to teaching also includes yearly
participation as a Course Director for the
American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Joint
Commission on AHPO at their annual conferences.
In addition, Dr. Lewicky developed and patented
a micro surgical instrument known as the
Anterior Chamber Maintainer, which is widely
used throughout the world.
Dr. Lewicky is an early pioneer in refractive
surgery, performing one of the first radial
keratotomy procedures in this area in 1981. He
received his initial training in refractive
surgery at the Institute of Eye Microsurgery in
Moscow from the acknowledged founder of modern
refractive surgery Professor S. Fyodorov. Dr.
Lewicky is a Diplomate of the American Board of
Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy
of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the prestigious
American College of Surgeons. Dr. Lewicky is an
Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush
University Medical School. Dr. Lewicky is a
founding partner of the Chicago Eye Institute
and a selected honored member of the National
Directory of Who's Who.
