Dr. Silas

Chicago Oculoplastic Surgeon

About Dr. Megan Silas:

Dr. Megan Silas is a Chicagoland native who attended the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign College of Engineering for her undergraduate education. There she studied Bioengineering and Chemistry, and graduated with highest honors in the top 3% of her graduating class. She then went to the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine on a merit-based scholarship. Dr. Silas remained at University of Chicago for residency training in Ophthalmology where she was selected from her peers to serve as chief resident. She received multiple awards during her residency, including the Harvey Z. Klein award for exemplary patient care, the departmental Respect and Compassion award, and the Kiernan OKAP award.

What Is her Specialty and Treatment Philosophy?

After her residency, Dr. Silas pursued specialty training by completing a fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery where she focused on both functional and cosmetic eyelid surgery. Dr. Silas is interested in how the eyelids and periocular area play an important role in both maintaining quality vision and promoting a youthful appearance. Her treatment philosophy focuses on safety while emphasizing natural and healthy results. Dr. Silas is passionate about the intersection of comprehensive ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery.

Why did Dr. Silas become an Ophthalmologist?

Dr. Silas first discovered the specialty of ophthalmology during a rotation during medical school. She quickly fell in love with the intricate techniques and complex technology required to perform surgery around the eye. Dr. Silas enjoys being able to preserve and restore vision for her patients.

What does Dr. Silas do outside of being a Doctor?

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Silas is interested in giving back. She has participated in international and domestic humanitarian work and hopes to continue this throughout her career. During her free time, Dr. Silas loves exploring Chicago with her faithful rescue dog, Sadie. She also is an avid skier and snowboarder and looks forward to traveling to the mountains each winter.
